BLESSING LOFT

The centerpiece of this Noho loft is a dramatic space that runs the full depth of the building, from front to rear windows. For parties, it opens to include a guest bedroom and a circulation spine that leads from the L-shaped loft’s remote entrance. The spine consists of stepping “piers” containing bookshelves, in terra cotta colors modulating from light to dark, and frosted glass doors that fold open against the “piers” to open the space fully. An octagonal soffit subtly defines a dining area within the front-to-back space without blocking the spatial flow, and connects to a screen of operable frosted glass casements that opens up or hides the kitchen. Glass and glass block brings light from nine rear windows to the interior of the apartment. David Bersohn’s metal sculptures are displayed throughout. The loft was featured in the Home section of New York Newsday. (Photos © Lazaro Carriles)
