HISTORICAL PRESERVATION

The restoration and reuse of historic buildings preserves their architectural and historical context, and it is usually friendlier to the environment than replacing them. Thus, it benefits their owners, occupants, users, and the public.

Peter Budeiri Associates has been involved in the conversion of seven commercial/industrial buildings in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn to multi-family residences. We have designed renovations to storefronts and building facades in the Soho, Tribeca, Park Slope, and Greenwich Village Historic Districts. Every application we made to the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission for a Certificate of Appropriateness was granted at its first public review.

For the landmark Church of the Holy Apostles, in association with architect Brett Rhode, we designed McGuire House, a six-story, $1.3 million residence for homeless persons with AIDS, and a memorial garden for the churchyard. In Denver, we designed a major intervention to a prominent landmark Christian Science church, inserting a Zen Buddhist temple without altering its historic exterior.
