Peter Budeiri Associates’ mission is to design buildings and spaces that work—beautifully. Our conviction is that architecture can enhance people’s lives at home, at work, and at play.

Our approach is to integrate architecture with lighting, landscape, graphics, furniture, and interior design, crafting a harmonious whole. On every project, we aim to create and develop innovative design ideas that respond effectively to the opportunities and constraints arising from the client’s program, context, and budget.

Peter Budeiri Associates is an award-winning architectural firm whose work has been exhibited in New York’s Center for Architecture and at the AIA National Convention. It has been published in Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Newsday, Builder, and three books on home design. Our clients have included foreign governments, large and small corporations, a public agency and not-for-profit organizations, real estate developers, and homeowners.

Peter Budeiri Associates has extensive expertise in the restoration and reuse of older buildings and in designing historically appropriate alterations to landmark buildings. We have obtained Certificates of Appropriateness and many staff-level permits from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, for work on individual landmarks and in the Greenwich Village, Soho, Tribeca, and Park Slope Historic Districts.

We offer our clients sustainable choices and pursue those of interest to them. We design energy-saving lighting retrofits and partner with engineering consultants to offer energy-efficient redesign and renovation.

Peter Budeiri, AIA, LEED AP

Peter Budeiri started his architecture practice with a wide range of projects: the conversion of a factory to apartments, a gallery of Arts and Crafts furniture and lamps, and two private residences. As his firm grew, Peter kept its projects diverse, finding that work on one building type teaches lessons that apply to others. Peter Budeiri Associates has designed stores, commercial establishments, offices, diplomatic offices, alterations and conversions of landmark buildings, and private residences from modest to luxurious.

Before starting the firm, Peter worked for John Carl Warnecke FAIA and Stephen B. Jacobs and Associates, specializing in new and renovated apartment buildings and hotels, including the Peninsula (formerly Gotham) Hotel in New York and The Reach in Key West. He has developed special expertise in New York City zoning, and in the construction and regulatory issues involved in the preservation and reuse of landmark buildings.

Peter was awarded the Vice Presidential Citation for Design Excellence by the American Institute of Architects, New York Chapter. He was chairman of the chapter’s Design Awards Committee in 2005 and served on its Dialogue and Building Codes Committees. Peter is a registered architect in New York and New Jersey, and he is a LEED Accredited Professional. Peter taught at Princeton University’s School of Urban and Environmental Studies, where he received his Masters of Architecture degree. He has been a jury critic at Pratt Institute School of Architecture. Peter received his Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Columbia University.

Simona Budeiri, AIA

Simona Budeiri has led production teams for important buildings in the United States and abroad, which have won several awards and have been published in every major U.S. architectural journal. Her professional experience includes more than twenty years with firms such as Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), James Stewart Polshek and Partners (now Ennead), Perkins Eastman, and John Carl Warnecke FAIA, producing buildings with construction values up to $670 million. These include the United States Embassy in Oman, Brooklyn Museum West Wing renovation, NYU Medical Center Skirball Institute, United States Courthouse at Foley Square, the Brooklyn Criminal Supreme and Family Court complex, IBM Corporate Headquarters in Armonk NY, and Humana Headquarters in Louisville KY.

Simona joined Peter Budeiri Associates as partner in 1997, bringing her experience with larger buildings and her expertise in integrating original design ideas with innovative technical solutions.

Simona is a registered architect in New York and a member of the American Institute of Architects. She has been a jury critic at Pratt Institute School of Architecture. Simona received her Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Bucharest Institute of Architecture.
